Art Market

10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, 3650 MLK Jr. Blvd., Los Angeles

A major juried exhibit of Black fine art and quality crafts featuring the work of over 100 different artists and artisans. The artistic works range in scope from oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, pen and ink drawings, glass painting and carvings to jewelry art and woven apparel. The exhibit will be presented to the public free of charge. The PAFF continues to be the largest Black film festival in America, as well as a world-class art exhibition showcasing work from the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, the South Pacific and Canada to illustrate the diversity and complexity of people of African descent. The Art Market is curated by Ghana’s Allohn Agbenya. The PAFF Art Market will take place each day from Thursday, February 5 through Monday, February 16, 2009. The PAFF Art Mart continues to remain free and open to the public.

Panel: Financial Planning

This seminar will address retirement planning strategies, college planning strategies, debt settlement/consolidation strategies, active money management strategies, 401K/403B roll-overs, Roth IRAs, mutual funds, annuities and life insurance products.

Giving honor to the elders among us, each weekday during the PAFF from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., seniors aged 62 and older are invited to come and watch films for free!

StudentFest

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Culver Plaza Theatre, 9919 Washington Blvd. Los Angeles

Each year over 18,000 Los Angeles City and County students and their teachers attend this free program wherein age-appropriate films dealing with issues important to youth such as teen pregnancy, AIDS prevention, literacy, cultural and racial respect, teen self-esteem and gang prevention are screened. Before the screenings, speakers working in areas related to the subject matter of the films conduct positive and interactive discussions.

LGBT, Political Interest

Screening – 2:15 p.m.

The cast and crew of gay and straight women and trans-folk are caught on camera behind the scenes of an atypical video shoot adding a candid and human voice to the debate of gay/straight relations in the Black community. Directed by Hanifah Walidah and Olive Demetrius. Talent attending. Q&A to follow screening. Film is approximately 76 minutes.

West Indian Interest

After her mother is sent to prison, profound changes occur in the lives of several people when 17-year-old Mandy Graham goes to live with her father’s dysfunctional family who she never knew. Soon passions are unleashed, laying bare souls and revealing long hidden secrets. Stars Bill Cobb, directed by Dianah Wynter. Talent attending. Q&A to follow screening. Film is approximately 105 minutes.
