Description:

For countless hours, days and weeks on end, the workers in the mining camps burrow long tunnels into the sand searching for an elusive gold nugget. When one is found, economic circumstances improve for all but when the tunnels collapse, the workers lose their lives, new teams are reeled in, and the process begins anew. Mocktar, a Nigerian farmer, looks for work in a gold mine in northern Burkina Faso. It is a prison with bars of wind and dust. Though still reeling from a personal tragedy, he demonstrates astonishing tenacity by climbing into the scorching tunnels each morning. The beautiful Coumba is also reeling from her own loss which has left her alone to raise her daughter on her own. She dreams of sending the little girl to Europe to live with her uncle. Amid a difficult, threatening environment, these two quickly become soulmates and find a ray of hope in one another.
