A conversation with actor and filmmaker Nate Parker
PAFF 2016 had an exclusive look at selected clips from Nate Parker’s directorial debut feature film about the Nat Turner Rebellion, THE BIRTH OF A NATION. Parker also stars as Nat Turner in the much anticipated, new cinematic story of the historically famous Southhampton County, Virginia slave revolt.
Joined in the conversation with the multi-hyphenate filmmaker about the making of the film and the history it covers will be one of its producers Preston Holmes (Boycott, Malcolm X), renowned author & historian Dr. Gerald Horne (Race to Revolution, Black Revolutionary), and other special guests. Tirrell D. Whittley, CEO of LIQUID SOUL & producer Darryl Pryor (42) will moderate.
Nate Parker’s work as an acclaimed actor includes starred & co-starred roles in the films: Beyond the Lights, Non-Stop, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Red Hook Summer, Arbitrage, Red Tails, The Secret Life of Bees, and The Great Debaters, among other roles in film, television and on stage.
Mr. Parker’s humanitarian work includes his mentorship of twenty-four young students from Central Los Angeles, his sponsorship of the Peace for Kids scholarship fund & work with their after-school program, as well as spearheaded projects and events with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
