Skimma yearns for a life beyond his village, located on a never-named island called “God’s back” because even the Lord seems to have forgotten it. The islanders rise before the sun to work hard, but their labor — mostly service in White tourism — never seems to pay off. Restless, Skimma’s dreams are bigger than the island. One evening, while sitting on the beach with his friend Peter, Skimma hatches an escape plan — using the lessons he learned working for a local cheesemaker to package weed in blocks of homemade cheese and sell them. It’s a foolproof plan threatened only by a local law officer with an axe to grind and Rebecca, the lovelorn daughter of a pious restaurant owner, who is pregnant with Skimma’s child. Visually stunning and pulsating with island music this different glimpse of island life is as heart-rendering as it is hilarious.
