synopsis
In the Kivu jungle, reputed to be the largest, densest and most hostile on the continent, Sergeant Xavier, a Rwandan war hero, and Faustin, young and inexperienced soldier are in enemy territory. Having been separated from their battalion, they find themselves alone and destitute. Caught in the grips of the fighting that rages all around them and where enemies and allies can no longer be distinguished, they have no choice but to sink into a green hell. In search of water, food, and always looking for a way out, they are exposed to pervasive hostility forcing them to face their own demons. A harrowing story that reflects the horror of war but advocates for reconciliation and a brighter future for the next generation. Joël Karekezi, a Rwandan genocide survivor, is a screenwriter, film director and film producer. In 2008 he received a diploma certificate in film directing from Cinecours. In 2009 he attended the Maisha Film Lab for screenwriting. His short film "The Pardon," about reconciliation after the 1994 Rwandan genocide against Tutsis, won the Golden Impala award at the Amakula Film Festival in Uganda.
