Biking While Black: Continuing to Ride Through Decriminalization, Disenfranchisement, and Gentrification

Cinemark Baldwin Hills 4020 Marlton Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, United States

Our streets and roads are facing a public health crisis and, as with many other public health crises, Black lives are disproportionately affected. Filmmaker Yolanda Davis-Overstreet takes us on a journey exploring the realities of Black lives on bicycles. Community members, local experts and faith leaders discuss issues of over-policing, loss of life, going up against city hall and the LAPD and creating a movement to fight for safer streets. We hear from outdoor enthusiasts across Los Angeles why Black communities are historically left out of so many outdoor activities and the importance of claiming and making safe spaces. An important look at the joys and challenges of biking while Black and the need for a transit future rooted in justice and equity.
